The Deeside Way from Aberdeen to Banchory

The Deeside Way between Aberdeen and Banchory follows the route of the The Old Royal Deeside Railway Line and is suitable for everyone. The trail is well maintained with only shallow gradients and is especially suited to families. Ramps have been built at former bridge locations and some new bridges constructed over streams and other obstacles.
The trail is marked From Duthie Park in Aberdeen through leafy suburbs to Peterculter then heads southwest across rural Aberdeenshire. Passing close to Crathes and Drum Castle the route continues past the Royal Deeside Railway Preservation Society at Crathes on the way to Banchory.

The following are extracts from Royal Deeside Map 5:-

The route starts in the south side of Aberdeen at Duthie Park. To the north end of the park there is an ramp to the level of the old railway line. The trail heads west through the suburbs and old stations of Holburn and Rothrieston. Many bridges survive making for an easy flat path that cuts a straight line through the remains of stations at Pitfodels, Cults, Cults West, Bieldside, Murtle and Milltimber……

After about 1km the line of the railway is interrupted by a fence and the track turns abruptly right up a rough and narrow link path to the road. Turn left at the road and in Coalford turn left again. At the Dalmaik crossroads continue straight on heading west and just before Moss-Side turn left along a small well graded trail. Now follow this past the Drumoak Manse to Keith’s Muir.
